What is TUS Athlone really like?

TUS Athlone offers a good mix of academic, sporting, cultural and social life for your third-level experience. Our 2022/23 Student Handbook contains lots of useful information about campus life, support services, study guides, student policies and much more. Below are some of the facilities and service we have to offer.


TUS Athlone has around 4,500 students from a wide variety of different backgrounds and cultures, and we employ approximately 700 staff. This means that campus can be very busy at times.

There is a wide range of facilities and services on campus:


There are five Catering Outlets spread across campus, ranging from Fairtrade Coffee/Tea Houses to an extensive Food Hall and Coffee Dock. These outlets provide good variety, affordable options and something to suit all tastes.  The focus is on providing a choice of healthy dishes, at affordable prices, at locations across campus, from early morning until late evening. Clubs & Societies

One of the best ways to meet new people and experience new things is by joining one of the many Clubs and Societies.


Visit the state of the art Gym and exercise studios in the TUS Athlone International Arena. The gym boasts over 70 diverse workout stations, including cardio machines, a wide range of both plate-loaded and traditional strength equipment. They also offer a range of exercise classes to cater for all levels of fitness.


Some of the services provided by TUS Athlone Library include:

  • Printing & Photocopying
  • Access to books, journals, articles and electronic resources
  • Access to past exam papers
  • Online subject guides

International Sports Arena

With a 6-lane 200-metre indoor running track, a sprint track, jump pits, pole vault area, shot putt area and much more, the TUS Athlone International Sports Arena is the best athletics facility in the country.

The campus is bigger than you might be used to at school and getting lost is common for new students and when timetables change. Becoming familiar with key buildings and locations may help you to prepare.
